Resistant Hypertension Clinic

The Resistant Hypertension Clinic at Centra is a multidisciplinary clinic that evaluates and treats patient with multidrug resistant hypertension. Our clinic provides extensive hypertension screening, patient education, secondary work-up, and tailored treatment options.

Conditions we treat

Blood pressure is the force that circulating blood exerts against the walls of the arteries. Hypertension is when blood pressure is too high and makes your heart work harder than it needs to. Hypertension is the most prevalent cardiovascular condition. It is a major risk factor for heart attacks and stroke. It is often called the “silent killer” as most people do not experience physical symptoms but there is underlying damage occurring to the body.

What is Resistant Hypertension?

Resistant hypertension is an elevated blood pressure ≥140/90 on 3 or more antihypertensive medications including a diuretic or controlled blood pressure of >4 medications.

Renal Denervation treatment for hypertension

The Renal denervation (RDN) procedure is for patients with high blood pressure, or hypertension. Known as the Symplicity™ blood pressure procedure, it is minimally invasive and targets nerves near the kidneys that can become overactive and cause elevated blood pressure.

The procedure is FDA approved for use as an adjunctive treatment in patients with hypertension when lifestyle changes and medications do not adequately control blood pressure, and it has been shown in studies to lower blood pressure in difficult-to-treat patients.
