Associate Degree in Nursing

Centra College offers a 2-year Associate Degree in Nursing program. Completion of the program qualifies a student to take the National Council Licensing Exam-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).

Our approach

Centra College offers a 2-year Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. The ADN program is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing (VBON) and a member of the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (NOADN). The ADN program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).

During the program, a wide variety of clinical experiences are provided at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital, and other local community locations. Successful completion of the program qualifies a student to take the National Council Licensing Exam-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).

Licensed Registered Nurses may have employment opportunities in the following areas:

  • Long term care
  • Acute care
  • Intensive and critical care units
  • Emergency medicine
  • Mental health
  • Womenā€™s health
  • Pediatrics
  • Surgical services
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Public health

ATI TEAS Entrance Exam

The TEAS test is required for all ADN applicants. Test scores must be submitted on or before the application deadline.

Testing out of courses

Applicants for the Associate Degree in Nursing program who are current Licensed Practical Nurses have the opportunity to test out of several courses in the of the ADN curriculum. If a student successfully tests out of the courses, it will shorten the program length from 2 years to 1.5 years. Interested applicants must complete the online application for the Associate Degree in Nursing program and submit all required documents in addition to the following:  

  • Submit an official transcript from a state approved school of practical nursing.   
  • Submit proof of a current unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  
  • In addition to the required ADN prerequisite courses, students must also complete BIO 142: Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credit hours) with a minimum grade of ā€œCā€ before entering the second semester ADN courses.
